Computer Vision becomes the new paradigm for safety in LEVEL CROSSINGS. A comparative study shows that begiCROSSING, the solution developed by the Computer Vision area of DOMINION, is more reliable for the detection of obstacles in level crossings than the Electromagnetic Induction Loop that is used mostly today. For six months both technologies have been used simultaneously in two level crossings and the results are overwhelming. You can see them in this report.
Improving security in level crossings is a need supported by data. In the past @ILCAD (International Day of Awareness in the level crossings), this problem was highlighted. In Europe, in 2017, 25% of railway accidents occurred in level crossings. The consequence was 282 deaths and 240 serious injuries. begiCROSSING brings an advanced solution to this problem. Its technology was recognized as “Best Practice” for the safety of the level crossings in the report “Analysis of the level crossing safety in Europe and beyond” published by @SAFERLC, the EU-funded #H2020 research project led by @uic.
