During the months of July and August of 2019, Begirale together with ADIF has carried out functional tests of the begiRAIL system at the PK 206 of the Madrid-Valencia High Speed Line (Desmonte de La Atalaya, Cuenca) and at the PK 322 of the R4 Line of Barcelona (apeadero de Vacarisses-Torreblanca). In both cases, these two-way railway sections present some risk of landslips and using begiRAIL it has been possible to detect with a single camera objects of a minimum size of 50x50x50 cm3 in track sections of up to 100 meters.
The begiRAIL system for the detection of obstacles on the tracks has demonstrated in these tests its reliability, as well as its functionality and versatility. It is a tool that not only autonomously monitors dangerous railway sections, but also allows railway traffic managers to remotely supervise the status of the risk sections where the system is installed.
The system makes use of the most advanced technologies in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence to detect obstructions in the railway network that could endanger the movement of trains. These obstructions normally are caused by the presence on the railway of vehicles, landslips, animals, trees or water.

During the 9 weeks that the tests lasted, the system was operative 100% of the time. begiRAIL underwent a series of tests carried out both day and night. In these tests, ADIF personnel placed objects of various sizes, shapes and colours in different positions of the supervised areas. The response of the system to all tests was correct, identifying as alarms all those that met the conditions that had been previously defined.
Additionally, during the period that the systems were active, the passage of more than 6,500 trains in both rail sections was correctly detected by begiRAIL. The presence of maintenance personnel on the supervised sections was also detected on several occasions, as well as intruders, mantainance machinery and occasionally some medium-sized animals.
